The year 2020 saw Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War added to the franchise's lineup, and many players were eager to jump right in and explore the new features and content the game offers. One feature that many may still wonder about is whether the game offers cross-platform play.

Well, you won't have to wonder for much longer as this guide will answer the question of whether Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War supports cross-platform. We'll also cover some of the important details you need to know to play this exciting FPS title with your friends on the platforms of your choosing.

Is Black Ops Cold War Cross Platform?

So, here's the brass tacks of the situation: Black Ops Cold War does, in fact, feature cross-platform play. Meaning you can team up and play with your buddies whether they're on Xbox, PlayStation, or PC with no platform restrictions at all.

However, there's a slight twist depending on which platform you're on. Xbox and PC players can't switch off cross-platform play. They have to keep it enabled to jump into lobbies and find games. PlayStation players, however, have the freedom to turn off cross-platform play completely, meaning that they can stick to playing with fellow PlayStation gamers only if they want.

Just keep in mind that if you turn off cross-platform play, it might take a bit longer to find matches. After all, there are fewer potential players available to match with.

The remarkable feature of Black Ops Cold War is not just its cross-play options but also its cross-progression capabilities. Instead of being tied to a specific platform, your profile and all the items you unlock in Cold War are linked to your Activision account.

This means that you can transfer your progress to any device you play on. For example, if you start playing on PC and later decide to switch to a PS5 or Xbox Series X, all the items you unlocked will be available to you when you purchase the next-gen version of the game.

However, it's important to note that according to a previous Activision blog, there may be some in-game progress or items that are not supported across platforms. This could include things like Call of Duty Endowment Packs or items that are exclusive to a particular platform. The exact number of unlockables affected by this policy is unclear, so it's advisable to be aware of any content that may not transfer between platforms.

Ultimately, the cross-platform play has been a hit feature in Cold War, and it's one of the major draws of the Call of Duty franchise. And if anything changes regarding the cross-platform play for the game, we will be sure to keep you updated.
